Perfume

Translated from the German original, this novel is both bizarre and entertaining. It has the feel of poetic prose seen in Tom Robbin's works, with a sinister and macabre twist. The story is that of a child born in late medieval France with a perfect sense of smell and a complete lack of morals, who goes on to become the greatest perfumer the world has known.

The book captures the concepts of smells and perfumes in a way I've not experienced since Jitterbug Perfume, an equally weird but compelling book.

One of my all time favourites.
