Names, Names, Names
Ok, after much soul searching and angst we have finally named "babychan". Her full name is:
Misaki Alexandra Arwen Ota-Jones
For those of you wondering about the meaning in Japanese of "Misaki", this will not be determined until the actual characters making up her name have been chosen. We'll let you know...

Home, Tree and Placenta
We bought babychan (?Misaki) home today, and its really nice to be here. She is behaving well. Charles bought us a gum tree to celebrate baby's birth, and we dug a deep hole and placed her placenta at the bottom.
The way I see it, the placenta is made up of the baby's own genetic material - in a way, it is as much her as she is (except its no longer alive). So as the tree grows, it will, in a way, contain "her".
Thats the idea anyway... :-)

Day 2
Well, yesterday got even busier. Charles and Liz came to visit, and gave a me little piggy. Charles is going to be my [insert non-denominational equivalent of godfather here] .
I've been a bit cold 'cos I'm only little - fortunately mum already had a bonnet for me. Snuggly an' warm.
Starting to breastfeed well now, and after my bath today mum and dad were really impressed with my hair - lots of it for such a little one. Soft, dark brown, and perhaps a trace of curls? We'll see.
Thanks to all our wellwishers and phone calls, come and see me!

Fabulous news, and Yuki just looks as though she has been out for a gentle stroll. We agree, a genuinely perfect looking baby - but what would we expect from someone in the trade? Well done. If you want to know about small babies let us know - we had a tiny one.

Day 1
Mum and I are trying to agree about this whole breastfeeding thing. You see, I’d rather sleep, but mum keeps sticking this thing in my mouth! Finally, just to please them, I had some milk from mum around 11AM today. Then our paediatrician popped by and gave me the all clear. I’m a little small, but all in proportion, and even he agreed I am beautiful!
Local friends and family, feel free to drop in and see me (2-4pm or 7-8pm)!

Birth
Yep, I finally made it, and 4 days before I was due (Tuesday 26.2.2002). Mum and Dad were expecting me, and at 0300 today I started to make my desire to "get out" known. Mum had an epidural (thanks Michael) and labour progressed smoothly, watched over by midwives Lo and Yvonne. After a bit over an hour of pushing by mum, I popped into the world at 4:19PM, helped along by Karen mum's obstetrician. Phew!
I am a girl as expected, and I am pround to say, absolutely beautiful!

Let me be the first to put congratulations into your babyblog. You know, I've never made an entry in a babyblog before. Let me also be the first to ask, what is babychan's name? Katie and I hope you enjoy every minute, even the occasional trying times. Its highly appropriate right now to offer unsolicited advice, so let me say that you should eschew any cloth or semi-environmentally sound options and go Huggies all the way. You'll be glad. The only alternative is to end up using them anyway, but laden with guilt.

Well, I am still inside twiddling my thumbs - the good news is my growth scan has shown I'm now more than 3kg! Thank goodness. Six days and counting.
